May 27, 2025
The Global Sustainable Development Congress 2025, organized by the
international higher education ranking organization Times Higher Education
(THE), will be held in Türkiye from June 16 to 19, 2025.
Through the collaboration developed between the Council of Higher Education
(CoHE) and THE, over 5,000 international representatives from more than 100
countries will participate in the congress, which will be held at the
Istanbul Congress Center.
CoHE President Özvar stated that the THE Congress will be held in Türkiye
for the first time, saying, “We will host a very valuable organization in
terms of our higher education history. The fact that such a large and
important congress will be held in our country is meaningful in terms of
showing the point Türkiye has reached in higher education."
The congress will address how the 17 different sustainable development
goals set by the United Nations (UN) are being implemented by higher
education institutions, best practices, experience sharing, and potential
collaborations. The conference will focus on six different sustainable
development goals: “Cities and Communities,” “Digital Innovation,”
“Education, Gender, and Inequalities,” “Energy and Industry,” “Food, Land,
Water, and Oceans,” and “Health and Well-being.”
The results of the 2025 Impact Rankings for world universities will also be
announced at the congress.
The congress, which will make a significant contribution to the
international promotion of Turkish higher education institutions, will also
feature a “Turkish Universities Pavilion” for the Council of Higher
Education and Turkish higher education institutions. Universities will set
up stands at the pavilion to showcase their educational opportunities.
The opening speech of the conference will be delivered by Erol Özvar,
President of the Higher Education Council, and Phil Baty, Director of
Global Relations at THE.
